There isn't too much repeating but there was a time or 2 where I did pause from reading but I still read the book in A-day and a 1/2.

All in all, this book was not for me (I’m just clarifying in case this super long review did not highlight this point 😂). This is the tendency of white people to either consciously or subconsciously separate themselves into ‘good’ white people, who are not racist; and ‘bad’ white people, who are. This only really seems to have happened to introduce Legion/Valen and to set her up as rebellious, which for the rest of the book means… she doesn’t think black people should be slaves. And while this story is interesting (and the audio good enough), I’m not yet sold on this series nor the author’s talent of storytelling.My last peeve with the writing was the fact that all the other characters could be referred to by their first name ALONE. I really struggled to envision how the world looked as it read as a country at times or as a small city in others. The push and pull between them gave me Reylo vibes and I loved the Viking-inspired detail sprinkled throughout the book. I honestly feel like I’m rereading ‘Blood and Ash’, but the characters are posher and I constantly need a dictionary.

As secrets unravel about Legion's vicious past, questions rise over who has the true right to the throne.I plan on giving book 2 a shot but I just don’t want to have my expectations of it being SPICIER be dashed.

It is obvious to her that the MMC is hiding something, as he has such liberal views and doesn’t conform to fit in with other. The FMC is besties with her serfs, prefers being in the slums to her fancy royal life, and thinks everyone is equal because she treats them equally. I had to immediately start the second book because I absolutely fell in love with Elise and Legion and need to know what happens next!I am very convinced that the author did not have an editor especially seeing how quickly these books have been released, so clearly no editor has looked at any of these and you can see it in the writing to there’s plenty of mistakes.
