Once again, NECA has worked their magic and added a couple of excellent figures to this short-lived, but much appreciated, series. I really had to go back and look at how different Bruce looked between the first and second films and, as I mentioned earlier, he even looks different in the promotional materials and such as they seem to have been created a good year or two after filming. This NECA Ash 7" scale action figure is highly articulated and has been given the Ultimate treatment and comes complete with four interchangeable head sculpts, chainsaw, mechanical hand, wood hand, hand stump, photo of his car, and shotgun that fits in a back holster so he comes with everything needed to fight a plague of Deadites once again.

The pants must be really impressive because when I was checking this guy out at Back in Time Collectibles my wife commented that the looked really well done. They mention that it is a great figure, has an amazing likeness, and comes with some really good accessories. I don't think that's really possible, though, so it's weird for NECA to include accessories for that pose, use that pose on the box, but then not ensure that the figure can take that pose.

I couldn't tell you what Ash's shoes looked like in the first movie off hand but this seems to be a pretty good replica of them as far as I can tell. I'm excited because my daughter is really only a year or two away from being able to watch Army of Darkness (it's pretty tame and any violence and what not is overly comedic).In the case of Asylum Ash, you get a really nice portrait with Ash smirking and another with a more grim, downturned mouth. I'm really expecting NECA to put out a second version with a few new portraits and some of those missing extras: The Necronomicon/ Naturom Demonto, the dagger, the shovel, and the axe from the film.

It’s a great look for him and it makes him appear as if he’s been stalking the halls of the Asylum and fighting its inhabitants for years. While the mixture of horror, comedy, and coolness of the future films is probably what makes them so endearing to me it's easy to forget just how crazy and horrific the first film is and how different the character of Ash Williams is in the film. They mention that it comes with some really good accessories, such as an amazing likeness and all the interchangeable weapons.

Ultimate Ash features all new fully articulated legs and tons of accessories, including 2 interchangeable heads (regular and possessed sculpts), interchangeable right forearms, severed possessed hand, Sheila head, Necronomicon, tape recording machine, shotgun and axe accessories. Everything is done very professionally with this company and always lets you know every step of the process. I really dig all the detail in the attachment on his stump, and the chainsaw includes the grab bar and some great looking teeth on the belt.

Three portraits, mostly new accessories (just a bit of reuse on the tape player body), and a completely new sculpt that captures the first appearance of Ash quite well.
