About this deal

Alternately known as "The Japanese Evil Dead," this legendary, sought after independent Japanese cult film will enjoy its first ever North American release in any format and features new bonus content. Bloody Muscle Body Builder in Hell is one that fans of SOV and WTF films as well as Deadites should enjoy. It’s about a conjured house and a body builder, there’s no space for more in this hour and two minutes comedy splatter. What I find interesting about Bloody Muscle Body Builder in Hell is that it was originally filmed in the nineties, but took years to actually be completed, and released. The situation is set up to give a ghost, and to get the cannon-fodder heroes into the house, and then let the death and the destruction commence.

While the film was just recently released, it was actually filmed way back in 1995, so that genuine grainy old school look really IS genuine, as are the classic mix of cheesy and cool practical effects. After binging through Halloween, Friday the 13th, and A Nightmare on Elm Street, I soon discovered Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead trilogy. He even plays into it at one point, Naoto throws an attacking hand across the room only for it to bounce back like a ball and hit him in the head. The film is not just a perfect homage to the series it is indebted to – it manages to take the blueprint that was laid out for it and take horror-comedy to new heights. Only, as the prologue reveals, Naoto’s dad had murdered his lover there 30 years earlier in the early ’70s, and buried her corpse beneath the floorboards. It’s currently available from Visual Vengeance and you can check their Facebook page for more information. Now she is determined to find new flesh and build her own bloody muscle body, so that she can execute a vengeful grudge against those that she has locked in the house with her. Combining cutting-edge design, illustration and journalism, we’ve been described as being “at the vanguard of the independent publishing movement.

There’s the La Casa series in Italy, wherein unrelated movies (including House II and House III, but not the original House! No other genre is as comfortable in turning its shortcomings into strengths, and this is a prime example of that. They invade like a viral infection via technology, plunging the globe into hopeless despair and death. What will confuse people (if they are looking for anything to make sense that is) is what does bodybuilding have to do with it? What it does feel like though is Shinichi Fukazawa’s love letter to what Evil Dead was – and the impact it made in Japan. While the narrative bides its time unveiling the truth behind Jane Doe’s battered body, it’s heavily steeped in witchcraft.

Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead films have obviously had just a slight cultural impact on the world of horror creating a tectonic plate level of shifting in the realm of horror films spawning an abundance of copycats, rip offs, cash grabs, and homages. The references to the former 80s video nasty can’t be ignored though this film can’t really compete with the original Sam Raimi classic. The isolated setting, the atmosphere, and the endless barrage of frights make this a perfect spooky watch for the weekend. In this Korean film, a horror web show crew plans a live stream event in one of the country’s most infamous abandoned hospitals.Written and directed by Stephen Cognetti, this faux-documentary style horror movie brings tons of thrills and chills. A lot of the gore in the movie is stop motion, and there is plenty of gooey substances coming out of every orifice of the zombie-like demons. Japan's answer to “The Evil Dead” which see’s a couple of paranormal investigators accompanied by the ex-boyfriend of one of them who make a bloody mess of a creepy Tokyo house with a murderous past as they provoke the wrath of a jealous vengeful spirit. An impalement with an barbell is preceded with his frenzied attempts to loosen its collars and get the weights off the bar. The interview with the film’s director is interesting but way too short considering the film’s road to completion and self release on DVD-R before eventually showing in Japanese theaters.

Bizarre little horror film that, in spite of its incredibly low budget, manages to provide some genuinely artistic moments of horror among the spurting arteries and decapitation. Unleashed from a mysterious Tokyo cellar and available for the first time in the UK, the Bloody Muscle Body Builder invites fans of bizarro lo-fi cinema on a far out journey .I'm checking out Bloody Muscle Body Builder in Hell (2012) purely because of the catchy title and how the movie marketing itself out to be The Japanese version of Evil Dead so naturally, as a big fan of low budget horror movies like I am this movie seems like it right up my alley and after 60 minutes I can tell you guys that this movie freaking deliver what it promises. Based on Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman’s 2010 stage play of the same name, Ghost Stories is an anthology of sorts that handily succeeds at giving you goosebumps. After a basic opening scene that sets the scene by depicting the murder of a young woman in a basement, the film takes a little while to get going again as we meet the titular character and get the excuse to go back to the house, where all hell breaks loose pretty quickly. It was self-released with a run of 100 burned DVDs in 2012 followed by official Japanese distribution in 2014.
