About this deal

There were also some issues with bolts and holes lining up, but with a bit of help we got it assembled in the end. On the plus side, the pneumatic tyres are really good quality for the price, and I think that those, and the other pros we mentioned, outweigh the cons. Pros The VonHaus Heavy Duty Two Wheeled Wheelbarrow makes it a breeze to navigate through the garden; its two-wheel design makes it much more stable than traditional single-wheel models, and it can even be pushed and pulled with one hand. Assembling the Walsall 85 Ltr Galvanized Wheelbarrow is relatively straight forward, with clearly detailed instructions. That said, there are times when pieces need a bit of coaxing into place, and it’s good advice not to tighten any of the nuts until they are all in position. Once assembled, this smart, galvanised steel wheelbarrow will be ready for the garden. We gave the Walsall Wheelbarrows, 85 litre, galvanised model our vote as the best one out there for builders due to the right combination of maximum possible load, manoeuvrability, and hardiness. I don't think my partner found it difficult to put together. Haven't used it yet and seems like it's going to be a good wheelbarrow

I still have to say that it can’t compete with the pneumatic tyres found on Draper and DJM wheelbarrows, but they are better than expected, and would deal with rolling over screws, nails, and other sharp objects without issue. That’s something you can’t always say about pneumatic tyres, and have you ever got a flat on a fully loaded 80+ litre wheelbarrow? It’s not fun! Pros Life saver, can get everything and more in this, meaning only one trip to the feild, one very happy pony owner

If the tray of the wheelbarrow is filled unevenly, it will no doubt wobble and make it harder for you to keep it steady when you lift and move it, and this usually ends up with the whole thing tipping over. Again, taking smaller loads can help, but ensuring that any load is well spread out and balanced is the best thing to do, and if you have to put more weight in one place, have it towards the front. Galvanised throughout and manufactured with a rigid tubular frame, this wheelbarrow is well made. It’s smaller than the other wheelbarrows featured here, making it easier to store and ideal for smaller gardens. It’s undeniably a vital piece of garden equipment, but there are a surprising number of different wheelbarrow designs out there to choose from – some well-suited to garden pottering, and others better equipped for commercial use. Best wheelbarrows for seniors: Draper expert garden caddy– lovely and light weight with a large base incase you have a slip! You’re not going to be shifting huge loads of materials or equipment with the Garden Caddy like you can with larger models such as the DJM heavy duty wheelbarrow, but it can manage up to 40kg, which I think is enough for most casual gardeners. The deep tub and high sides are also great for holding long handled tools, like spades and rakes, in place, and you can throw a load of dead leaves or weeds in there too.

I’ve also heard of people using them as an emergency cover for things like petrol generators when it suddenly rains, using metal wheelbarrows as makeshift fire pits, or repurposing old wheelbarrows into beautiful garden features like these planters: Wheelbarrow repurposed as a planter – no need to throw it away once it’s past it!If you’re working on very uneven terrain, for example doing building work, you might want to choose a wheel with a wider width so that it can spread the load better and a pneumatic tyre that won’t puncture. Well Simon, I want to mix large quantities of cement, and to do this I need a wheelbarrow that has enough depth to hold it. On top of that, it needs to be wide enough so that I can mix the cement with a shovel without banging into the sides every 5 seconds. But that’s not all. The wheelbarrow needs to be low enough off the floor so that I’m not having to lift the powdered concrete up too high to get it in there. Oh, and it has to be strong enough to hold the weight and be durable enough material so as to not get chipped and scratched by the shovel as I mix.” The deep tray makes it easy to keep loading in material, making full use of the 90 L capacity whilst keeping things well balanced. It’s still not a heavyweight builder’s wheelbarrow, but when used with common sense it can handle pretty large loads.

For infrequent wheelbarrow use, you’ll likely find a solid tire is more practical; these don’t deflate over time like a pneumatic wheel and can be left in the shed or garage for years, ready for use at the drop of a hat. However, plastic wheelbarrows can still be very strong and durable provided they have a strong steel frame for support. They also won’t rust, dent or distort like some metal models. With a U-shaped handle and robust, yet lightweight, plastic tray, the VonHaus wheelbarrow is a great choice for gardeners who need something that is well balanced and not too heavy. It can be controlled easily and moved in several different ways. Very happy Husband after receiving his very practical new gift. Fantastic wheelbarrow, super fast delivery, great price. Highly recommended Whilst the wide wheel base does mean this wheelbarrow may struggle in narrower passages (it is 70 cm wide in total), the pneumatic tyres are robust and able to cope with the majority of garden terrain.Galvanised steel wheelbarrows with solid steel skids are heavier, so this is also worth keeping in mind – you’ll likely already be shifting heavy loads so may not want to add the weight of a dense wheelbarrow on top of that! On the plus side, single-wheeled barrows are very manoeuvrable when compared to versions with more wheels, and as long as you are careful, and don’t’ try to break your fastest lap of the garden with a big pile of material loaded in the barrow, you should be ok. Some of the others came close but there were little things that let them down for this specific purpose. For example, the Walsall galvanised wheelbarrow had the dimensions but I wasn’t keen on the puncture-proof wheel as I’ve found that they tend to make the cement move around when you hit a bump in the ground, and some of the others we tested had those annoying bolts standing proud. Whilst made of metal, this still doesn’t substitute for a builder’s wheelbarrow; it’s one of the best wheelbarrows for gardening tasks if you want pneumatic tyres, but it’s not been designed for heavy-duty lifting or building work.
