Here’s what you need to know about the Galaxy Z Fold 2 battery: we’ve been averaging all-day battery life from a nightly charge for a week straight. That’s not too surprising, as the official battery capacity is 4,500mAh, a modest upgrade over the original Fold’s 4,380mAh. This home-brewed chip is roughly in the same performance ballpark as the Snapdragon 865, but Qualcomm’s chip is measurably faster and more efficient.The Galaxy Z Fold 2 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ processor, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of non-expandable storage. It benchmarks like other top-of-the-line smartphones, with one quirk: It gets dramatically different benchmark results when it's open as opposed to when it's closed. This is funny, but also understandable. Any benchmark that relies on on-screen performance, such as PCMark or GFXBench, is going to end up scoring differently on the different-resolution screens. The front display on the Galaxy Z Fold 2 alone is a huge upgrade. I also really like Flex Mode and the versatility that gives this phone. Being able to prop up the device at various angles really makes the Z Fold 2 feel like a brand new type of device. And while the Mult-Active window multitasking requires a bit of a learning curve, it maximizes productivity. I see a lot of phones, and many are similar. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is not. I'm skeptical of super-expensive phones nowadays, but this one delivers the goods: a genuinely new use case and form factor, with impeccable flagship performance and a few quirks, but no bugs. There are some funny limits to Flex Mode. First of all, the phone laid down on its screen is very slippery, so it slides on a surface that isn't perfectly flat. My desk slopes slightly down, so the phone kept sliding. I'm concerned about scratching the screen if it's placed on a rough surface such as concrete. The exterior screen also faces down rather than out in Flex Mode, so if you're taking a Flex Mode photo or video of yourself, you don't get to see a viewfinder. The latter is my biggest disappointment, as Flex Mode really encourages one-person content creation.
As expected, the battery life dropped on the Z Fold 2 with the display set to 120Hz (adaptive), with the phone lasting 9 hours and 5 minutes. Of course, your mileage will likely vary based on two factors: how much you use the 7.6-inch screen vs the less-power-hungry 6.2-inch Cover Display, and how often you have the 120Hz mode activated; Samsung’s adaptive screen refresh rate is smart, dialing things down to as little as 11Hz for simple tasks, but we found the (totally worth it) mode depleted our Fold 2 battery life a bit faster.There’s more to the Fold 2 screen than intricate folding mechanisms. Its size and refresh rate have been boosted so much that there’s absolutely no reason to consider buying a Fold 1, and current owners will feel instant regret for buying Gen 1 technology (we can’t say we didn’t warn you in our original review). Flex Mode is the means by which Samsung executes split-screen software – perfectly. When the 7.6-inch Fold 2 is propped up at a 90-degree angle, the camera app shows the live camera preview on the top part of the screen. On the bottom-left is the last photo taken (great for comparing your most recent shot to the one you’re about to take), and the bottom-right side is dedicated to camera controls. YouTube allows for something similar: you can watch a video on the top half of the screen, while you scroll through comments or navigate to other videos on the bottom screen. The biggest changes to smartphone software in the last decade are happening right now, and that’s because foldable phones are pushing the idea of using multiple apps simultaneously. The functionality has existed on phones before, but the concept is fully realized on the Fold 2. As time has moved on, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has been largely superseded by the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra - integrated S Pen aside. Meanwhile there’s been nothing to take the place of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 as yet. It’s easier to recommend this phone to early adopters who crave novelty, knowing that, with each new iteration, the perk of showing off a foldable screen will wear off. It won’t be mind-blowing when the Galaxy Z Fold 5 comes out if everybody has one. If that’s triggering your smartphone FOMO, this more durable and refined Fold sequel is for you.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 takes all the faults of the first generation and fixes them to deliver a truly impressive folding phone that is future-proof. With 5G, Snapdragon 865 Plus CPU and 12GB of RAM, this has plenty of power and those cameras in the rear at 12MP on each of the three lenses make this a great phone without compromise. Battery: Actual battery life varies by network environment, features and apps used, frequency of calls and messages, number of times charged, and many other factors. All of this information would normally be crammed onto one small smartphone screen, so Flex Mode has the potential to dramatically declutter the Android interface – it reminds us of what the Asus Zenbook Duo is doing for laptops with its screen embedded in the top part of the keyboard case. Here’s Samsung’s big problem though: while Flex Mode applies to a few other apps, like video calls and Google Duo, it’s not compatible with more than a handful. So we’re torn. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 remains obnoxiously expensive for a smartphone – it costs as much as two Samsung Galaxy S20 phones if you fashion your own hinge (please... don’t actually attempt that). Yet it fixes most of the first-gen limitations we complained about, courtesy of its larger Cover Display and improved durability. It has the features we wanted at a price no one asked for. Samsung Mobile always tries to delivers the most advanced and appealing smartphone into the market.
Both the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Fold 2 have 4500 mAh batteries, which isn’t that big by modern standards. Especially not given the size of these displays. speeds are going to vary by region and carrier, according to our tests in New York City. We experienced sub-6 ‘5G’ at 200Mbps on T-Mobile, and then, minutes later in the very same spot, much faster mmWave 5G at 1.6Gbps on Verizon. The tradeoff is that the slower sub-6 speeds worked indoors as well as outside, while mmWave required us to stand outside directly under a 5G antenna. The Fold 2 – like all 5G phones in 2020 – feels future-proofed more than it’s constantly super fast. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 immediately makes a better impression than the Galaxy Fold because of its larger exterior display. You no longer feel like you're operating Android through a peep hole, and that's because the cover screen has grown from 4.6 inches to 6.2 inches.
That said you may be able to find some great prices on the older Fold now that the new model is here, but it has numerous issues that the Fold 2 fixes, and is no longer sold officially. Cover display: 6.23", Super AMOLED, 816 x 2260 pixels (25:9) which is enough to show optimal display.

This is especially so with the Galaxy Z Fold 2, where it’s having to drive a uniquely large 7.6-inch display at 120Hz, in addition to a secondary 6.23-inch display. Our reviewer generally managed to get through a full day, but only when using the standard 60Hz refresh rate. Bumping things up to 120Hz made things far hairier. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 5G comes with numerous features which not only mrake its appearance appealing but also very adjustable. The phone has a dimension of Flex mode adds versatility: Thanks to the cam mechanism in the hinge, you can open the display at various angles. Flex Mode is there to take advantage of that. For example, in the camera app, you’ll see the live previous up top and controls down below. Samsung has equipped it with a larger 6.2-inch cover display which is certainly much better to use compared to its predecessor. The internal display has also been increased to 7.6-inches and not only that, it also gets 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Samsung has done away with all display notches in favor of an Infinity-O punch hole so that the bezel sizes could be reduced. Anecdotally, the battery life on the Z Fold 2 is pretty solid. I started using the phone at 10 am and after a day of heavy usage it had about 18% juice left at 10 pm.
