Charlie does a Pipkins job, but as so often happens with him, things don't go quite as planned............. As the weather changes, one gets too hot or too cold. But a hare can’t wear thinner fur, and a Tortoise can’t come out of his shell, so they have to think of other ways of keeping cool…

Chug chug chug, and the tug comes chugging into the harbour. What do you think he's got inside? Now, Mr Smith drives a lorry! Brrrmmm! Now what we want to do, Carmel, is to wind it up, that's right, keep going, now swing it over and drop it, right hold it there, hoist away! Up she comes. Everyone has hiccups and can't get rid of them. But there are several ways to get rid of them, as they discover from a roller skating granny.....

Mr Pipkin receives a letter from Fred but Hartley is disappointed because no one ever sends him a letter. Topov and Johnny think it’s time to put this right…. Johnny brings home a pet Goldfish. Everyone is fond of him, but sadly, he dies. Hartley wants to buy another one. Johnny won't though, until they find out more about how to look after fish.... It’s Johnny’s birthday and his presents must be a surprise. Topov is given the task of making sure Johnny doesn’t see everyone wrapping the presents…… Pig, perhaps rather foolishly, has bought a whole lot of junk which Tom says he cannot get rid of...............

Johnny, Hartley, Tortoise, Topov and co start up in business as “Pipkins”, the help people. Hartley answers the phone in the office, while Pig and Topov go ouut in the van to help people….

It's Hartley's birthday- and there are lots of surprises. He doesn't know he's going to have a party ,a present, and a surprise telephone call! Topov is unhappy. He thinks there are better places to live than Pipkins and that everyone else is better off........... Everything wooden is disappearing from Pipkins. When inspector Pig of Trotter yard investigates,he comes up with an answer, it is the work of a wood thief. Uncle Hare takes Mrs P into town and finds he likes his own hollow much better. But Mrs P likes one place they visit….where they keep fish on ice!Unusually for a children's programme, there was no spin-off Pipkins merchandise (toys, games, books etc.) produced during the programme's run. Hartley feels poorly, but he’s in good hands as Charlie is looking after him. However as Hartley recovers, strange things start to happen to Charlie… a tour of a supermarket (puppets precariously balanced around rim of trolley and on bloke’s shoulders as elderly shoppers looked on, askance);
