About this deal

English game of Darts is French! Yes, the darts used at the newfangled fairground attraction of Dart History [ edit ] Dartboard [ edit ] 'Doubles board' in a pub in North Yorkshire, England. Doubles boards are common in the North of England. Another pointer to look for if you are buying a wired board not a blade, then look at the pinning construction. Most these days are pinned within the treble and double areas however if you can find one that has its pins on the outer side of the trebles then these don’t obscure the treble and double bed. These boards may also have more pins because they are pinned either side of the highest scoring segments but also allow for less movement in the wire hence a better construction. What can be seen is the numbers 1-20 is used. This is the same numbering we tend to use today without the centre or outer bullseye.

from the board to the throw line or 9' 7 ½" (2.93m) when measured diagonally from the bulls eye to the throwing line). This second measure is used when playing on an uneven surface. Throwing Lane In 1992, a group of darts players broke off from the BDO and, in pursuit of higher prize money, formed the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). The PDC organises their tournaments as well as their world championship.Grimsby boards are quite old, it doesn’t feature the treble ring and the dual bullseye. But with the 28 scoring segments, hitting the target is quite difficult. 8. Kent Dartboard The Ipswich or Wide Fives set-up is shown as the standard setup however I am waiting confirmation as this may well change to the same as the London Five Dartboard. The game is played as per the standard 501 games except the starting number ends in a 05 not 01. Scoring

A throw that reduces a player's score below zero, to exactly one, or to zero but not ending with a double or bullseye is known as "going bust". The player's score is reset to its value at the start of that turn, and any remaining throws in the turn are forfeited. Board of brilliant versatility". BBC Sport. 29 December 2003. Dartboard advertising has been around for years. Locally breweries, Internally Tobacco firms, and a host of others would commission dartboards to be given away to pub and clubs to advertise their name. This was great for the pubs as they didn’t need to buy a board and a cheap form of advertising for companies.

Paper Dartboard – made with paper and only used for casual playing. The dart marks are permanent, so this board can only last for a few games. UK Regional Dartboards such as the Yorkshire, Manchester Log-end and Kent Doubles dartboards are still played on today. The London Fives and Ipswich Fives are also used and leagues still exist. But the same is not true from some of the others. Since the end of the News of the World Darts Championship and other past major tournaments, the BDO and PDC both organised a televised World Professional Championship, however, since the financial collapse of the BDO, their edition of the world championship has not been held since 2020. The PDC championship is held annually over the Christmas/New Year period, as was the BDO event, with the PDC version finishing slightly earlier than the BDO tournament did. The BDO World Championship had been running since 1978; the PDC World Championship started in 1994. Throwing distances and heights have varied over the years and today different leagues still use different measurements. I have listed below the standard measurements used. However I am sure others will say we play from x distance different from what I have stated. I know some ladies leagues do use shorter throwing distances but this is not true for official competition i.e. WDF,BDO competitions. The common oche length used when playing on a Soft-tip board is 8’ (2.43m) not 7’ 9 ¼” (2.37m). See your local league for any variation. The height of the board is the same as a standard dartboard. Ladies Throwing Distance! By the late 1920s the trebles ‘standard dartboard’ was introduced and remains the most popular dartboard in the world today. However, the ‘standard’ dartboard was not an overnight success in the UK. Initially, it had to compete with other existing target boards played across the United Kingdom. These have come to be known as ‘regional dartboards’ and were usually named after their region of origin of the where the dartboard was first made. For example, the Yorkshire Doubles board, Kent Doubles, the London Fives and the Manchester Log-end Board. The Yorkshire board with has a ‘standard’ numbering system without trebles, The Manchester ‘Log-end’, The London 'East End' (Narrow Fives) and Ipswich (Wide Fives) Dartboards have a different numbering system. All these boards are still available and still played on in the UK (c 2018). However, they still remain regional and are played on less than the standard dartboard. is achieved (whilst located in the opponent's half) by saying drop (to signal one's intention) and ( via a single throw) aiming for the opponent's goal square

Dartboards have also been designed to reflect other sports, namely football. In the UK top-flight teams from both the English and the Scottish Premiership Football have their own dartboard! For fans of clubs this might be an ideal present to buy for birthdays or Christmas. When beginning my general research in the early 1980s the answer to the question appeared to almost certainly be Brian Gamlin, a 44-year-old journeyman carpenter allegedly from Bury, Lancashire, who, according to Dave Lanning in Leighton Rees – On Darts (1979), invented the numbering in 1896 ‘with the help of three other people’ but died in 1903 ‘before he could patent the idea.’ From then on the story became embellished by author after author and so, like many others, I began to believe it, so I set out on a serious search for Gamlin. The result? By the early 1990s I had found no contemporary mention of him anywhere. Newspapers were bereft of any primary data and even Dave Lanning admitted that his source had been the ‘Old Codgers’ column in a 70s issue of the Daily Mirror. Eventually I wrote the whole thing off as a carefully constructed figment of someone’s imagination. But if Gamlin wasn’t responsible then who was? The dartboard still features a Kenyan Sisal, which I find softer, less brittle and more durable. The softer facing sisal allows the dart point to penetrate deeply into the firmer sisal beneath, which alone reduces bounce outs and dead areas. However, Winmau has gone further by redesigning the blade wiring to make the sisal flow naturally into each high scoring area of the dartboard. The bullseye has also been redeveloped to eliminate dead areas that sometimes can be found on other boards. Funfair dartboards have had their own styles. Many just designed to set a target for the punter. These varied in size, style and target area. Although veins appear on most dartboards they are relatively thin they don’t usually cause a problem. However, on the odd occasion, mainly when the dartboard is worn, a dart hitting a joint vein may not stay in the board, hence to say why these three don’t make my top three. The Nodor, One80 and Harrows that said Winmau Blade 4 (not the Dual Core) have served me well for a few years! With regular turning, all of these boards they all should last you well. There are other kinds of boards that existed (and still exist) before the Old London dartboard design was invented. Other dartboard variations are still used on regional casual games. Here are ten other different types of dartboards. 10 Different Dartboard Variations 1. Ipswich Board (London Five)
